On a gloomy London evening, János Bátky, a literary historian from Budapest gets a mysterious invitation to the Pendragon family castle in Wales. Why, he does not know. But he believes that in the castle library he will find ancient, yet unknown books about his literary specialization, Rosicrucians History – so he travels to Wales.

“Who are these Rosicrucians?”

“Rosicrucians? Hm. Have you ever heard of the Freemasons?”

“Yes. People who meet in secret … and I’ve no idea what they get up to.”

But he believes that in the castle library he will find ancient, yet unknown books about his literary specialization, Rosicrucians History – so he travels to Wales. He has no idea about the things that wait for him there - insidious deceptions, ecstatic experiments, and occult doctrines…not only a classic castle ghost haunts him (which he is prepared for, more or less), but there is a rock climber assassin…a midnight misty rider…a secret laboratory…an ancient castle crypt…dead livings and living deads…love…passion…legacy…the century-long secrets of the Pendragon family…and there is no way back; the Fates are already spinning the threads!

Antal Szerb’s book, published in 1934, is a lovely paperback. Seemingly. However, during the rehearsals, the company that wanted to adapt the book for theatre, has found some hidden secret codes in the text, which ones put this masterpiece into new light…could the Rosicrucians still be among us?
