Nagyszínpad
130 minutes 1 intermission
Weöres Sándor’s poetic tale play is truly, deeply a fairytale and a big game. Mixing the humour and the freedom of traditional fairground puppetry with folklore growth stories, in this play you can find the gracefulness of puppetry and the gravity of life. It is a magical story that speaks for every generation.
Father Ice, king of the Hungarians, have four visitors to ask for his daughter’s hand: Idomeneus from Crete, Memnon from the South, Dumuzi, the Sumerian sorcerer and Huang-ti, the Chinese emperor. They promise mighty army, infinite riches, powerful magic, and breath-taking arts in exchange for the princess. But Princess Peafowl wants something entirely different. Secretly she is in love with the unreachable rower of the Moon, and her only wish is to be raised up to the heavens next to him. Bearson, the Lappish king’s son heir helps her to escape the suitors, and so the adventures around the world begin. She’s accompanied by three scamps of traditional fairground puppetry – Lazlo the Brave, Paprika Jancsi and Istók Foolish. They travel through foreign empires, magical lands, having countless adventures together. By the end of this tale, Peafowl not only learns about the world but also about herself and about true love.
