Nagyszínpad
140 minutes 1 intermission
István Tasnádi used the well-known myth of Heracles to write a new play specially for Budapest Puppet Theatre. Through the story of the legendary hero (or as we’d say today, the superhero) Heracles and his average mortal half-brother Iphicles, ancient mythology and the modern world meets to show bravery, heroism, being the chosen one, arrogance, brotherly rivalry and brotherly love.
“Do you know who I am?! Have you ever heard of the biggest hero of the world, Heracles? Maybe Hercules? Herc? NOT Herc! He’s Greek, so let’s just settle for Heracles. So anyways, this Hercules – is not me. Almost, though. I’m his half-brother, my name is Iphicles. We are almost the same age, people actually used to think we are twins. Not too long, though. My bro started lifting and…well, you’ll see. I’m just an ordinary mortal from next door, just like you. But my brother is a real star, a demigod! He’s really into heroics and stuff. Like he even saved my life once back in the cradle!”
